X2Go on FLOSS Weekly

On May 21st 2014, the two Mikes (Gabriel|DePaulo) from the X2Go core developer team were interviewed about X2Go by the famous Randal L. Schwartz (merlyn) and equally famous Randi Harper (freebsdgirl) on the FLOSS Weekly Netcast.

New X2Go releases: x2goclient, pyhoca-gui, pyhoca-cli, python-x2go

The X2Go Project is proud to announce a couple of new X2Go component releases:

  • x2goclient (
  • pyhoca-gui (
  • pyhoca-cli (
  • python-x2go (

All new packages will be available in our stable repositories (Debian,   Ubuntu) within the next 24h.

The Mac OS version of x2goclient will be available within the next couple of days, the Windows client takes a little more time due to heavy workload on the developers‘ side.

Sources and binary releases will be downloadable under this URL as  soon as they are provided by the packagers.

I personally am very proud to be able to present a long-waited-for major release of Python X2Go and PyHoca-GUI. Thanks to Dick Kniep ( for sponsoring this piece of software.

The latest API documentation of Python X2Go can be read here:

Note: for Python X2Go, PyHoca-GUI and PyHoca-CLI, there has been a license change with this release. The three projects since are versioned under the GNU Affero General Public License 3 (or higher) / AGPL-3+.

X2Go server-side packages backported for Debian lenny

You all really should have upgraded your X2Go servers to Debian squeeze…

For those who have not: we have just provided the latest releases of all server-side X2Go packages for Debian lenny. Such package backporting occurs in irregular intervals and is mostly related to some contractor who needs latest X2Go packages for not-yet upgraded servers.

Happy installation!

X2goclient 3.01-4 for Windows (ready for roll out)

Hello X2gousers,

after more than 2 weeks testing, we recommend to update the windows client to version 3.01-4. If you still need to use a X-server other than the build in, please let us know. The combination of X-server and X2goclient in one package solved some individual installation and configuration problems.

best regards,

Hello X2go users,

as promised we are introducing a new X2goclient for Windows today. Even if the version number is a bit of boring (the number is related to the update of all other X2go packages) this is really a big step of this piece of software. The most interesting changes are:

  • Windows 7 users can now install (and use) X2goclient for Windows
  • exotic (really exotic!) usernames can now use x2goclient
  • As X2goclient now contains an X-Server build from sources the installer of Xming is no longer part of this package
  • PulseAudio is now nativly build for X2goclient
  • sshd will not be started as system daemon any more
  • every X2coclient process starts a own Version of X, ssh and PulseAudio.
  • the session dpi can be adopted to the local display
  • for printing and viewing PDFs (X2goprint) it’s now possible to use the windows default PDF viewer application with winapi function „ShellExec“ (If you use this option you won’t need ghostscript any more)

If you’d like to test it, please send us your opinion and discovered bugs. Please remove previously installed x2goclients and xmings (if you don’t need it any longer). A whole list of changes will be postet to our mailinglist.

…working on a new Windows Client

In the last weeks we’ve been working on a new version of the Windows Version of X2goclient. In future X2goclient will include the X-server and not install a whole xming environment. Only needed items will be part of install package and you won’t need user interaction to get the components running.

By default the SSHD will be running in userspace, which will prevent the occurence of the problem of unset access control list options. Furthermore Usernames with white space and exoticc letters will be possible to use x2goclient even if they are part of a windows domain.

Because of the number of changes we will give you soon access to the beta version of this client. We hope to invite you to test this client at the end of next week.

Best Regards,
