The latest changes on our Pulseaudio implementation are making it possible to use Voice Over IP applications. This is a short demonstration with the new Nokia N900 phone (we could test this device only for a very short period of time). This will work on more common setups like desktop clients too.

For anybody new to X2go – this video shows a client application which makes it possible to connect to a remote desktop. After the the connection is established you’ll see a kde 3.5 Desktop which is running on a remote machine – not local. The started voip application also runs on the server machine. What you hear at the end of the video is the recorded output of the server side voip application.

best regards,

Hello X2gousers,

after more than 2 weeks testing, we recommend to update the windows client to version 3.01-4. If you still need to use a X-server other than the build in, please let us know. The combination of X-server and X2goclient in one package solved some individual installation and configuration problems.

A new version of X2goclient for Windows has been released. It is no longer needed to install a whole instance of xming and the SSHD is no longer startet in daemon mode.

Hello X2go users,

as promised we are introducing a new X2goclient for Windows today. Even if the version number is a bit of boring (the number is related to the update of all other X2go packages) this is really a big step of this piece of software. The most interesting changes are:

Windows 7 users can now install (and use) X2goclient for Windows

exotic (really exotic!) usernames can now use x2goclient

As X2goclient now contains an X-Server build from sources the installer of Xming is no longer part of this package

PulseAudio is now nativly build for X2goclient

sshd will not be started as system daemon any more

every X2coclient process starts a own Version of X, ssh and PulseAudio.

the session dpi can be adopted to the local display

for printing and viewing PDFs (X2goprint) it’s now possible to use the windows default PDF viewer application with winapi function “ShellExec” (If you use this option you won’t need ghostscript any more)

If you’d like to test it, please send us your opinion and discovered bugs. Please remove previously installed x2goclients and xmings (if you don’t need it any longer). A whole list of changes will be postet to our mailinglist.

Xgoclient 3.01-4 can be downloaded here:

http://prdownload.berlios.de/x2go/x2goclient-3.01-4-setup.exe

Regards,

New version of the windows x2goclient announced. Now without the xming installer and ready for ADS use.

In the last weeks we’ve been working on a new version of the Windows Version of X2goclient. In future X2goclient will include the X-server and not install a whole xming environment. Only needed items will be part of install package and you won’t need user interaction to get the components running.

By default the SSHD will be running in userspace, which will prevent the occurence of the problem of unset access control list options. Furthermore Usernames with white space and exoticc letters will be possible to use x2goclient even if they are part of a windows domain.

Because of the number of changes we will give you soon access to the beta version of this client. We hope to invite you to test this client at the end of next week.

Best Regards,

Hello Weblog visitors. If you wan’t to see x2go in action or if you have questions about it, you’ll have soon the chance to visit our booth in Bottrop. The Event is named “OpenRheinRuhr” – you can visit their pages here (http://www.openrheinruhr.de/).

If you wan’t to give x2go a try before this, you’re invited to follow a fine little manual on ProLinux (http://www.pro-linux.de/berichte/x2go-ubuntu.html).

After the survey about desktop virtualizations shows that it is important for you to let the users have access to their own devices, please use the comment feature of this blog to let us know which devices are needed! This would be a great help.

best regards,

"one virtual machine for one user" or "one (virtual) machine for a lot of users" - what would you choose for desktop virtualization?

The number of emails with the subject “desktop virtualization” is increasing. All of them asking for a “one virtual machine for one user” model. A terminal server normally can handle more than one user on one machine and linux really has great tools to respect different wishes of different users on one system. With limits you can control the cpu usage etc…

Surly you can use both models with x2go and yes – we are working on virtual machine integration – but: is a terminal server a valid solution for desktop virtualisation?

Feel free to comment on this topic or visit our survey page:
